RESUMEN

Dandelion is a herbal plant recorded in the China Pharmacopoeia of a People's Republic. It contains useful chemical constituents or active ingredients with pharmacological activities, such as anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, and antibacterial properties. Since COVID-19 has happened for over three years, there is no reasonable treatment up to the display. This brief commentary introduces the knowledge of dandelion, the background of COVID-19, and dandelion's mechanisms of pharmaceutical activities because it may be a conceivable candidate for combating SARS-CoV-2. © 2022 by the authors.

RESUMEN

The COVID-19 pandemic occurred over two years and has not yet been finished. There are some possible Chinese medicines formulations used to prevent and treat COVID-19. Single pure herbal such as curcumin is the most common to combat SARS-CoV-2 with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, antitumor, and hepatoprotective properties. This short communication describes another single pure herbal, "Celastrol”, research progress and its nanosystem for the treatment of COVID-19. © 2022 by the authors.

RESUMEN

Radix Salvia miltiorrhiza (Danshen) is a Chinese herbal used in China to treat irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, insomnia, swelling liver, and angina pectoris. It also has various pharmacological activities, including anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation, anti-tumor, anti-atherogenesis, and anti-diabetes. However, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), e.g., Danshen, lacks quality control. Pesticide residues and heavy metals are the most important problems, although Danshen may cure many diseases, even SARS-CoV-2 in a COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, the present short commentary discusses the background of Danshen, quality management, and its application to COVID-19.

RESUMEN

Based on the information suggested by World Health Organization (WHO) and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government, wearing a mask and sterilizing hands with alcohol-based hand disinfectants are effective ways to maintain good personal hygiene to prevent viral infections. This study focused on the real-time concentrations of alcohol vapor in the air associated with five alcohol-based hand disinfectants. The results indicated that the alcohol concentrations increased dramatically (max. ~46,000 ppb/g sample) in the hand-rubbing process. Hong Kong residents' survey on habits of using such disinfectants showed that 65% of people use them daily and 34% of people use them ≥ 5 times per day, indicating a high frequency of usage. About 79% of respondents claimed to have skin problems, and 18% got eyes discomfort when using these disinfectants. Despite the potential health risks of using alcohol disinfectants remaining unclear, such a large amount and frequent usage should be aware of potential health problems in the long term. © 2022 by the authors.

RESUMEN

The COVID-19 pandemic has not yet finished. Many scientists are still thinking about how to measure the SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater. Curcumin is traditional Chinese medicine with various biological activities, such as antimicrobial and antiviral properties. However, due to its lower bioavailability, curcumin is required with the help of nanotechnology to enhance these characteristics. Could curcumin be used for the removal or purification of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater? This short communication describes the background of COVID-19, the research progress of curcumin, and its nanonisation to remove or purify SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater. © 2022 by the authors.

RESUMEN

A traditional Chinese medicine “Curcumin” has been used as a photosensitizer in the application of photodynamic therapy such a long time. However, it has significant limitations, including poor “solubility” and “absorbtivity”. “Hydrogel” is being used to overcome these problems, which enhance the biodegradability and biocompatibility of curcumin. This present article discusses the background, research progress, and clinical study to describe the possibility of curcumin hydrogel for photodynamic therapy fight against SARS-CoV-2. Based on the literature review finding, curcumin as a photosensitizer uses a microcatheter to incorporate the hydrogel systemically or locally into the lungs through the pulmonary artery to combat SARS-CoV-2. It is extracorporeal illumination for photodynamic therapy, which exposure to blue light with a mean wavelength of 450 nm is a much safe and limited depth of photodynamic therapy treatment. Thus, curcumin incorporated with the hydrogel is a suitable candidate used for the photodynamic treatment of SARS-CoV-2, cancer, wound healing, and bacterial infection. © 2022 by the authors.

RESUMEN

Carbon Nanotube (CNT) has a wide range of applications, including physics, chemistry, and materials sciences. It belongs to the fullerenes (Carbon Allotropes, C60 ) family and is categorized into single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) or multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs). CNTs act as analytical tools consisting of useful features for improving the analytical process based on their sorption properties and electronic properties. The performance of modified electrode is determined in terms of sensitivity, linear range, the limit of detection (LOD), the limit of quantitation (LOQ), stability (Km), and the effects of interfering species, e.g., ascorbic acid (AA), uric acid (UA) and acetaminophen (AP). This mini-review article introduces the background of CNTs, principles, and the usage of an enzyme-based electrode and the applications in the medical fields for tissue engineering, drug delivery, cancer, even in SARS-CoV-2 COVID-19. © 2022 by the authors.
